Michael Munn’s life reflects courage, perseverance, and the steady grace of God. In many ways, his journey can be described as A Life Shaped by God’s Grace. His story began in China, where he spent part of his childhood in a foster home. Life there held challenges, but it also held purpose. The founders of the foster home showed him that blindness did not define his limits. They taught him that he could dream, grow, and pursue a full life. They also helped him learn English, along with reading and writing in English and Chinese Braille.

Everything changed in 2014 when a Christian American family adopted him. Their love gave him more than a home. It gave him confidence, stability, and the freedom to imagine a future far beyond what he once believed possible. God’s timing in that moment opened a door that shaped every step ahead.

Arriving in the United States brought new challenges. At first, Michael had to adapt to a new culture, a new language, and a new school system. In addition, he needed to relearn English and master contracted Braille in a country far from everything familiar. During that time, sixth-grade science class felt overwhelming, especially during long lessons spoken entirely in English. Even so, Michael stayed determined. Each day, his skills grew stronger until the language barrier slowly dissolved. With God’s help, he continued building a life shaped by grace, perseverance, and purpose.

Michael graduated high school in 2022 and began training at Blind Incorporated in Minnesota. There, he developed strong skills in independent travel, daily living, communication, and self-advocacy. That training shaped his confidence and prepared him for college life. The program showed him that independence grows through practice and perseverance as part of A Life Shaped by God’s Grace.

Faith plays a central role in Michael’s life. He participates in the student fellowship at his church, where he worships, studies Scripture, and prays with others. He occasionally helps lead worship and enjoys serving beside his church family. Michael also recognizes God’s hand in the adoption process that brought him to the United States. He sees God’s guidance in every step that allowed his family to bring him home.

Today, Michael attends Minneapolis College. He plans to transfer to the University of Minnesota to major in Political Science and continue toward law school. He serves as secretary of his college’s Student Senate, working to build a more supportive and inclusive campus community. In this season, he continues to live A Life Shaped by God’s Grace, striving to reflect the Lord’s love wherever he goes.

Music also fills his life with joy. He plays the drums, learns the saxophone, and enjoys exploring other instruments. He loves to travel, especially by train across the country, where he experiences the world with curiosity and gratitude.

Michael’s story shows that God shapes every journey with intention. His life reflects hope, strength, and the power of perseverance rooted in faith. Through challenges and change, God continues to lead his steps, preparing him for the purpose ahead.

God strengthens anyone who seeks Him. He lifts those who reach for His help. God never turns away a searching heart. When we reach for Him, He draws near and guides our steps. He restores the weary, strengthens the weak, and leads anyone willing to place a hand in His. Through every season, God meets every person who calls on Him, and He fills each life with hope and purpose.

Some people search for hope as if it’s something far away — hidden in a future they can’t see or buried beneath the weight of their circumstances. But Scripture tells a different story. Hope doesn’t begin with our search. Hope begins with God’s knowing.

Long before you took your first breath, before you opened your eyes to the world, before you ever wondered who you were or why you were here — God already knew you.

Psalm 139 paints this truth with breathtaking clarity. David writes that God knit you together in your mother’s womb, crafting every detail with intention and love. You were not an accident, or a random combination of cells. You were designed, shaped by the hands of the One who sees the end from the beginning.

He saw your personality.
God saw your strengths.
He saw your struggles.
Jesus saw your story — every chapter of it.

And He called you “wonderfully made.”

But the psalm doesn’t stop there. It tells us that every day of your life was written in His book before one of them came to be. That means your purpose didn’t begin when you discovered it. Your purpose began when God imagined you.

And Scripture echoes this truth again in the New Testament:
God prepared good works for you before the foundation of the world. (Ephesians 1:4)
Before time began, He had something in mind for you — something only you could carry, something only you could reflect, something only your life could reveal. God prepared good works for you beforehand. (Ephesians 2:10)

So when you feel lost…
When you wonder what comes next… and you’re searching for direction or meaning or hope…
You’re not starting from emptiness.
You are returning to the One who already knows the way.

Hope grows when you lean into His Word. It strengthens when you listen for His wisdom. Hope rises when you remember that the God who formed you is the same God who guides you.

You are not wandering, and You are being led.
He can never forget you and You are fully known.
You are not without purpose.
You were created with intention — from the very beginning.

And the One who wrote your story is still writing.
Still guiding… shaping… and loving you.
He is still leading you toward the good He planned long before you were born.

This is where hope begins:
In the heart of the God who made you, knows you, and calls you forward.

Look to Him, for He loves you. He is always reaching toward you, ready to wrap you in His love the moment you call on Him. Any time you ask Him to come close, He comes: holding you, steadying you, and surrounding you with the comfort only He can give.

When a child is born with blindness or another disability, parents often ask a painful question: Why?
That question rises from love, fear, and uncertainty. God meets families in that very place.

Disability is not a mistake. It is not punishment. It is not evidence of lesser worth. Scripture shows that God creates every life with intention, even when the path looks different.

Jesus addressed this directly. When His disciples asked why a man was born blind, Jesus answered clearly. The blindness did not come from sin. It existed so that God’s work could be revealed through his life (John 9:3).

God still works this way today.

Disability does more than shape a child’s journey. It reshapes everyone around them. It confronts the belief that strength equals independence or that value depends on ability. It exposes pride, reorders priorities, and reminds the world that worth comes from being a child of God, not from fitting a narrow definition of “normal.”

Born With a Disability-A Different Journey

Sometimes this journey feels like planning a long-awaited trip to France, only to land unexpectedly in Italy. The destination feels wrong at first, unfamiliar and unwanted. Yet when families step into the reality before them, they discover beauty they never expected. The experience becomes richer, deeper, and more meaningful than the one they planned. God often leads through unexpected paths that hold hidden fullness and purpose.

A disability may change how a child sees, moves, or communicates. It never changes their value. God often uses what the world calls limitation to reveal strength, wisdom, and purpose in all of us, that could come no other way.

History confirms this truth. Helen Keller lived without sight or hearing, yet her life reshaped education, advocacy, and compassion worldwide. Perseverance sharpened her voice, and purpose expanded her influence.

God continues this work quietly every day.

Children with disabilities draw others into deeper empathy, patience, and humility. Families learn fierce love and creativity. Teachers and communities learn that access is not an exception but a responsibility. God uses these lives to challenge selfish assumptions and redefine what true strength looks like.

Pain may mark the beginning of the journey, but it never defines the ending.

God does not waste suffering. He weaves it into calling. He transforms hardship into testimony. He uses lives that look different to reveal His glory in ways that cannot be ignored.

When a child is born with a disability, God has not stepped away. He has stepped closer.

And He is still writing a story of purpose, dignity, and greatness.
