Michael Munn’s life reflects courage, perseverance, and the steady grace of God. In many ways, his journey can be described as A Life Shaped by God’s Grace. His story began in China, where he spent part of his childhood in a foster home. Life there held challenges, but it also held purpose. The founders of the foster home showed him that blindness did not define his limits. They taught him that he could dream, grow, and pursue a full life. They also helped him learn English, along with reading and writing in English and Chinese Braille.

Everything changed in 2014 when a Christian American family adopted him. Their love gave him more than a home. It gave him confidence, stability, and the freedom to imagine a future far beyond what he once believed possible. God’s timing in that moment opened a door that shaped every step ahead.

Arriving in the United States brought new challenges. At first, Michael had to adapt to a new culture, a new language, and a new school system. In addition, he needed to relearn English and master contracted Braille in a country far from everything familiar. During that time, sixth-grade science class felt overwhelming, especially during long lessons spoken entirely in English. Even so, Michael stayed determined. Each day, his skills grew stronger until the language barrier slowly dissolved. With God’s help, he continued building a life shaped by grace, perseverance, and purpose.

Michael graduated high school in 2022 and began training at Blind Incorporated in Minnesota. There, he developed strong skills in independent travel, daily living, communication, and self-advocacy. That training shaped his confidence and prepared him for college life. The program showed him that independence grows through practice and perseverance as part of A Life Shaped by God’s Grace.

Faith plays a central role in Michael’s life. He participates in the student fellowship at his church, where he worships, studies Scripture, and prays with others. He occasionally helps lead worship and enjoys serving beside his church family. Michael also recognizes God’s hand in the adoption process that brought him to the United States. He sees God’s guidance in every step that allowed his family to bring him home.

Today, Michael attends Minneapolis College. He plans to transfer to the University of Minnesota to major in Political Science and continue toward law school. He serves as secretary of his college’s Student Senate, working to build a more supportive and inclusive campus community. In this season, he continues to live A Life Shaped by God’s Grace, striving to reflect the Lord’s love wherever he goes.

Music also fills his life with joy. He plays the drums, learns the saxophone, and enjoys exploring other instruments. He loves to travel, especially by train across the country, where he experiences the world with curiosity and gratitude.

Michael’s story shows that God shapes every journey with intention. His life reflects hope, strength, and the power of perseverance rooted in faith. Through challenges and change, God continues to lead his steps, preparing him for the purpose ahead.

God strengthens anyone who seeks Him. He lifts those who reach for His help. God never turns away a searching heart. When we reach for Him, He draws near and guides our steps. He restores the weary, strengthens the weak, and leads anyone willing to place a hand in His. Through every season, God meets every person who calls on Him, and He fills each life with hope and purpose.

When Hope Feels Lost — God Speaks Again

A Hope Story from Exodus

Moses had obeyed at God’s command to go and Free His People.
He had stepped into his calling.
He had spoken to Pharaoh.
And it had gone terribly wrong.

Instead of freedom, the Israelites faced harsher slavery.
Instead of breakthrough, Moses faced backlash.
He cried out to God, questioning everything:

“Why did You ever send me?” — Exodus 5:22, (MSG)

And then — in Exodus 6 — God answered.

Not with rebuke.
Not with silence.
But with reminders of who He is.

God’s Response to a Weary Person (Exodus 6:1–8)

God said:

“I am the Lord.”

“I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob…”

“I have heard the groaning of the Israelites…”

“I will bring you out…”

“I will redeem you…”

“I will take you as My own people…”

“I will be your God…”

“I will bring you to the land I swore…”

Eight promises.
Eight declarations of identity.
Eight anchors of hope.

God didn’t change the circumstances immediately.
He changed Moses’ perspective.

This story is for anyone who has ever:

obeyed God and felt punished for it

stepped out in faith and hit a wall

questioned their calling

felt like hope was slipping away

It reminds us:

God sees the groaning we hide

God speaks when we feel forgotten

God repeats His promises when we’re too weary to remember

God’s identity is our anchor when circumstances feel unstable

Hope is not the absence of struggle — it’s the presence of God in the middle of it

Prayer: When Hope Feels Lost

Lord, You are El Dober Od, the God who speaks again
When I feel like I’ve failed, remind me of Your promises.
When obedience leads to hardship, remind me of Your presence.
When I question why You sent me, whisper again that You are the Lord.

I am Lord: faithful, near and not finished. I have great plans for you.
“The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.” — Psalm 145:18 (ESV)

Help me hold onto hope, not because I see the outcome,
but because I know the One who holds it.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Helen’s Story:

Helen was one of the sweetest, most remarkable students I ever met. She and her family had just arrived in the United States from the Russia–Ukraine border, where both languages are spoken interchangeably. In these moments, it felt as though there was a God Who Weeps with Us, sharing in the joys and struggles of our lives. In our first meeting, no one on the school team spoke Russian, so we worked through an interpreter. Through her, I told Helen that I would teach her every piece of technology she needed to finally access her education, something she had never been able to do at sixteen years old.

Helen’s story began long before she reached my classroom. Her mother had been pregnant with her when the Chernobyl disaster occurred. The radiation exposure affected Helen in utero, and by the time she was ten or eleven, brain tumors began to appear in her head. The medical care available to her was heartbreaking, and her family endured more than most of us could imagine. Eventually, someone in the U.S. sponsored her travel so she could receive the medical attention she desperately needed. A skilled surgeon removed her tumors through her nose, a delicate and effective procedure and by the time she moved to the state where I was teaching blind students, the tumor was gone.

When she arrived, the only screen reader available was JAWS, and it spoke only English. So I contacted a blind colleague in Russia who shared Russian-language scripts with me. I installed them on her computer so she could hear her native language to learn how to speak English and to use both as she wanted.

On her very first day, she sat down, turned toward me, and said in halting English,
“I want to die cause I’m blind as they can’t do nothing.” This was when I truly felt the presence of a God Who Weeps with Us.

My heart broke. But I also knew that if I could show her how to work like her peers — quickly, independently, confidently — her life would change. And it did.

I didn’t speak Russian, but I immediately began showing her how to type English keys and hear Russian output. When she heard her language spoken back to her through the computer, her eyes lit up. The smile that spread across her face told me everything I needed to know: hope had entered the room.

Within a month, she had begun teaching herself English by switching between languages and reading her assignments. Soon she was interpreting for her entire family at school meetings. Within weeks, she no longer needed an interpreter at all. She learned cane travel, navigated her classes independently, and blossomed into a vibrant teenager with long, beautiful hair and a smile that said, I can do this. Through these moments, I was reminded of the God Who Weeps with Us.

Two months after we began, she told me,
“I don’t want to die anymore. I want to live. This is all so great.”

Her confidence and joy grew. Her belief in her own future grew. She was going to be a Teacher of the Blind too!

But within the year, her headaches returned. A new doctor in a new city chose a different surgical approach — one that required removing the entire front of her face to reach the tumor. They believed it would be faster than going through the nose. It was a devastating decision, and ultimately, a fatal one.

The day after she received the news, she came to school early, knowing I was always there before sunrise. She sat with me and began to cry — deep, soul-level tears explaining what the doctor told her. I was speechless and the Holy Spirit moved me to simply sit with her and cry too. We held each other and wept until the Kleenex box was empty. It was a moment where we felt the God Who Weeps with Us was present.

There were no words to fix it or even say. No advice that would make it right. Just presence, and love. Just shared sorrow.

“Weep with those who weep.” — Romans 12:15

That morning, we lived that Scripture. And when the tears finally stopped, she was steadied enough to face the days ahead. Truly, a God Who Weeps with Us was there in our shared tears.

The Heart of the Story

Most of the time, people don’t need our advice.
They need our presence.
Someone willing to sit in the ashes with them.
They need someone who will cry when life breaks their heart.

Just as Jesus did

“Jesus wept.” — John 11:35

Helen taught me that love is often expressed not in answers, but in tears shared, burdens carried, and hope held gently between two people who refuse to let suffering have the final word.

Go to Faith Stories

Understanding the Journey of Pain and Resilience

Life’s journey is often filled with challenges, a form of suffering that shapes the soul, leaving us feeling broken and lost. However, within these trials lies the seed of resilience, waiting for the light of faith to help it grow. Paul’s words remind us that “perseverance produces character and character produces hope” (Romans 5:3-4). This sacred journey transforms our struggles into profound testimonies of God’s healing power.

Why We Experience Trials

Testing Our Faith: Trials often test the strength of our faith, pushing us to lean more heavily on God.

Building Character: Difficulties can shape our character, helping us become more compassionate and resilient.

Guiding Us to Our Purpose: Each challenge we face can reveal our divine purpose and calling in life.

Transforming Pain into Purpose

Rather than allowing pain to consume us, we can choose to view it as a powerful teacher as God’s sees us in the

wilderness. Here’s how:

Reflect on Your Experiences: Take time to meditate on your struggles and identify what you’ve learned from them.

Share Your Story: Sharing your testimony not only aids in your healing but serves as a beacon of hope for others.

Engage in Prayer: Prayer is a powerful tool that can help you process your pain and seek divine guidance.

Stories of Transformation

Consider these inspiring examples of individuals who turned their pain into purpose:

John’s Journey: After losing his job, John struggled with depression but used his experiences to help others facing similar challenges by starting a support group.

Maria’s Mission: Maria’s battle with illness led her to contribute time and resources to cancer research, creating awareness and hope among others affected.

Building a Supportive Community

At God’s Hope, we believe in the power of community to uplift and nurture one another through life’s storms. Here’s how you can get involved:

Join a Group: Participate in local or online support groups that focus on healing and spiritual growth.

Volunteer: Use your gifts and talents to serve others, whether through community service, mentoring, or prayer support.

Connect with Us: Share your story with our community at God’s Hope, inspiring others with your resilience.

Transforming Trials

Transforming trials into triumphs is not just a possibility; it’s a promise. By embracing our hardships as tools for growth and sharing our journeys, we illuminate the path of hope and purpose not only for ourselves but for those around us. Pain, when nurtured with faith, can indeed become the soil where resilience blooms and miracles unfold.
