Jesus is the Perfect Counselor, fully God and fully man.
He brings truth with authority and compassion with perfect timing.
In the story from the Gospel of John, Martha and Mary both speak the same words:
“Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
The situation is the same, yet Jesus responds differently.
Martha comes first.
Jesus meets her with truth and declares, “I am the resurrection and the life.”
He reveals His identity as God and calls her to believe.
Then Mary comes.
She says the same words, yet Jesus responds with tears.
He enters her grief and weeps with her.
In one moment, He shows both realities.
Fully God, He speaks life.
Fully man, He feels sorrow.
“I AM” declares His identity as God Almighty.
He came in the flesh to save, restore, and bring life where death once ruled.
Jesus hates death, yet He carries our grief.
He conquers sin, yet He walks with us through sorrow.
This is why we remember Him through the Lord’s Supper.
The bread and the cup remind us of His sacrifice, His love, and His victory.
Human counselors are limited.
At times people need truth, and at times they need tears.
Yet people often struggle to know when to give each.
Jesus never misses the moment.
He gives truth when it is needed and compassion when hearts are breaking.
He is the Perfect Counselor.
Go to Him.
Receive truth.
Receive mercy.
